Security Window Film
For your home security system
Glass doors and windows are often the weakest way into a house. 3M security film, anchored to the frame, makes a burglar work much harder and longer to get through.

Home Security, Simplified.
Our film has one simple job: protect your home.
So what is security window film? It’s a tough, clear layer bonded to the inside of your glass. When a burglar strikes the window, the glass may crack, but it stays in the film and in the frame.
Did you know?Burglars look for the fastest, quietest way into a home, and that’s often a glass door or a ground-floor window. Security film turns a quick smash into a slow, noisy job. That gives you, your neighbors and your alarm company time to respond.

A physical layer of protection at your glass
Most home security systems tell you someone is getting in. Security film is there to slow them down while it happens. It works quietly at every filmed window and door, day and night, whether or not the alarm is set. It doesn’t make glass unbreakable and it won’t stop a determined intruder. What it does is take away the easy way in.

Slow down break-ins
A burglar counts on breaking a pane and stepping through in seconds. With security film, the glass cracks but stays bonded to the film. Anchored to the frame with 3M’s attachment system, it means the intruder has to keep working at it. Every extra second makes a break-in more likely to be noticed.
Problem solved: fast, easy entry through glass

Protect against smash-and-grab
Many burglaries are quick: break the glass, reach in, grab what’s nearby, leave. Film holds the broken glass in place, so there’s no instant opening to reach through. That’s especially useful on doors with glass next to the lock and on ground-floor windows.

Block harmful UV rays
As well as security, 3M security films block up to 99% of UV rays. That helps protect floors, furniture and artwork from fading. Ultra Prestige versions also reject solar heat, so one film can handle both jobs.

How security film is installed
Film thickness and how it’s attached decide how much delay it adds. We’ll recommend the right combination for each door and window.

8 mil film
Forced-entry film
3M Scotchshield Ultra: micro-layered for tear resistance. Our most popular choice for homes.
14 mil film

Learn more about security window film
Does security window film really work?
Yes, as long as you know what it’s for. It doesn’t make glass unbreakable. It holds broken glass together and, when it’s anchored to the frame, makes an intruder spend much longer getting through. That delay is the point: more time, more noise and more chance of being seen.
Is security film bulletproof or burglar-proof?
No, and we won’t tell you it is. 3M security films aren’t bulletproof and aren’t designed to stop a determined intruder. They’re designed to delay one. We recommend using them alongside an alarm system.
What does security window film cost?
Price depends on the film thickness, whether you add the frame attachment, and how many doors and windows you protect. The visit and quote are free.
Is it installed on the inside or outside?
Security film goes on the inside of the glass, where it can be bonded to the frame. 3M also makes an exterior safety film for special cases. We’ll tell you if you need it.
Can I get security and sun control in one film?
Yes. 3M Scotchshield Ultra Prestige combines security film with Prestige heat control, so one film can slow down break-ins and keep the room cooler.
Will my windows look different?
Barely. Clear 3M security films let through 85–89% of visible light, so most people never notice it’s there.
